A Custom AI System for Smarter Traffic Monitoring
We built a custom AI-powered vehicle monitoring system that recognizes Bangladeshi license plates, monitors vehicle speeds, and supports intelligent traffic management at the Padma Bridge toll plaza.

Recognizing Bangladeshi vehicles is not a one-size-fits-all problem.
Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems need to identify vehicles accurately, even when traffic conditions, lighting, and camera perspectives change.
In Bangladesh, there is an additional challenge: license plates use Bangla script.
Generic recognition models are not necessarily equipped to handle the unique characteristics of Bangladeshi license plates. Meanwhile, different vehicle categories, outdoor lighting, weather, and traffic conditions add further complexity to automated vehicle monitoring.
At the Padma Bridge toll plaza, the system needed to do more than recognize license plates. It also needed to classify vehicles and identify speed violations through a unified monitoring solution.
Generic recognition models failed to handle Bangla script and local traffic conditions, leaving operators without reliable automated vehicle oversight.
We built an AI system around the realities of Bangladeshi roads.
We developed a custom-trained AI model using Bangladeshi vehicle and license-plate data. The system combines vehicle detection, vehicle classification, plate localization, Bangla optical character recognition (OCR), and speed analysis into one integrated pipeline. By pairing the AI model with high-resolution Milesight cameras to support long-range vehicle and license-plate capture, the result is a vehicle monitoring solution designed specifically for the requirements of a major transportation infrastructure project in Bangladesh.
"We focused on making the technology work in the environment it was built for, rather than adapting a generic solution to fit the problem."
Everything needed to identify, classify, and monitor vehicles.
Custom Bangla ANPR model
We developed a custom-trained AI model to detect and recognize Bangla-script license plates from vehicle images.
Vehicle detection and classification
The system identifies vehicles in camera feeds and classifies them across different vehicle categories.
Intelligent speed monitoring
The AI pipeline analyzes vehicle speed and identifies violations against predefined speed limits.
High-resolution camera integration
We integrated high-power Milesight cameras to support long-range and high-resolution vehicle and license-plate capture.
Integrated computer vision pipeline
We connected vehicle detection, classification, plate localization, Bangla OCR, and speed analysis into one end-to-end workflow.
A web-based monitoring dashboard
The control panel brings together live toll-plaza camera feeds, recognized license plates, vehicle speed readings, and vehicle category logs.
Together, these capabilities provide an integrated approach to automated vehicle identification and speed monitoring.
Four problems, four fixes.
Generic ANPR models struggled with native Bangla-script license plates.
Developed a custom-trained AI model tailored specifically for Bangladeshi vehicle and license-plate data.
Manual vehicle classification slowed down traffic data tracking.
Integrated vehicle detection and multi-category classification directly into the AI pipeline.
Speed violations were difficult to flag consistently in real time.
Added automated speed analysis to detect and flag violations against predefined limits instantly.
Operators lacked a unified interface to review footage and logs together.
Built a centralized web dashboard combining live camera feeds, recognition logs, and speed data.
From a passing vehicle to actionable information.
We designed the monitoring experience around the information operators need to understand vehicle activity.
The dashboard brings live camera feeds, license plate recognition, vehicle classification, and speed readings into one centralized control panel.
Operators can review vehicle information alongside the corresponding camera feed, making it easier to understand what the system has detected.
The experience connects AI-powered vehicle recognition with practical monitoring tools, allowing the technology to support real-world traffic oversight.

Monitor vehicle activity through live camera feeds and centralized controls.

Recognize Bangla-script license plates directly from vehicle footage.

Review vehicle speed readings and identify potential violations.
A custom-built solution, deployed at a major infrastructure project.
The system was successfully deployed at the Padma Bridge toll plaza for automated Bangla license plate recognition, vehicle classification, and speed monitoring.
The project demonstrates how custom-trained computer vision can address the specific challenges of local vehicle identification and outdoor transportation infrastructure.
What the project has achieved:
- Real-world deployment: Successfully deployed at the Padma Bridge toll plaza.
- Bangla license plate recognition: Custom-trained AI designed specifically for native Bangla-script plates.
- Automated vehicle classification: Identification and classification of different vehicle categories.
- Intelligent speed monitoring: Automated analysis of vehicle speed and identification of speed violations.
- Integrated monitoring: A unified workflow connecting vehicle detection, plate recognition, and speed analysis.
Why this matters to transportation infrastructure
Reliable vehicle identification is an important foundation for intelligent transportation systems. By combining localized AI models, high-resolution camera hardware, and centralized monitoring, the system supports a more automated approach to vehicle identification and traffic oversight. The project demonstrates the practical application of custom AI engineering in Bangladesh's transportation infrastructure.
